The Devil's Kitchen

The Devil's Kitchen is a fascinating little hike if you ever want to plan a short half-day hike in Utah. You can find it on the Nebo Loop Road close to Payson, Utah.

I've always been intrigued with this spot simply because of its name. I mean, what part of Devil's Kitchen doesn't draw you in? It was compelling enough to warrant a visit. So, that's exactly what I did one afternoon. 

From Provo, Utah, it's around an hour and 15 minutes to get to. I simply punched the location into my GPS and I was off. It was easy enough to find. Once you get into the valley and begin to wind your way up the mountainside, there are several spots along the way to stop and get scenic pictures. The landscape is incredible to see.

After following the signs for a time, one arrives at a small parking lot with signs pointing to the Devil's Kitchen. Honestly, I was expecting a longer hike. It took no more than three minutes to get to the viewpoint.

The viewpoint, however, is worth it. It's not what I was expecting at all. Honestly, I didn't know what to expect, but it wasn't all that red rock. The description says that the locals call it a small Bryce Canyon (post on that coming soon).

It was a sight to behold. But, I did want to do a little hiking. Right off the viewpoint is a small trail leading downward. I took that trail and wandered around for a bit. Be prepared, however, to hike back up. It's steep.

All in all, this short trip provided excellent scenery while not taking a lot of time. I would highly recommend this particular short hike.
