Lake Billy Chinook

I've traveled to Lake Billy Chinook every summer for each of the past seven years.

"Where is Lake Billy Chinook?" - you're probably asking yourself. And for good reason.

Unless you live within 100 miles of the lake, you've probably never heard of it.

It's situated in central Oregon. The closest semi-large city would be Bend, Oregon. There's really not a whole lot around there.

That could be in part due to three sides of the lake being owned by Native Americans. There's only one side you can enter the lake, which is state owned. It's makes driving there a bit of an experience.

Because the lake is not very well known, there's often plenty of wide-open space to boat.

Every year that I go, I go houseboating with family and friends. While the water does get semi-busy on weekends, the rest of the week is usually, for the most part, quiet.

I love coming to Lake Billy Chinook for the quiet aspect of it. There's virtually no cell reception, so you can leave your worries at the entrance.

If that doesn't convince you to spend some time at Lake Billy Chinook, check it out if only for the sunsets.
