Wendover, Utah (West Wendover, Nevada)

When traveling to the Bonneville Salt Flats, one feels the need to stop in Wendover, Utah. Why is that, you may ask? (I don't blame you.)

Because adjacent to Wendover, Utah is West Wendover, Nevada. And who cares about either of those cities? Well, no one, really. BUT - gambling is legal in Nevada. As a native Utahan, I can't waste my money at the slots in my great state. However, heading to the Salt Flats, I was a quick 10 minute drive away from a gambling haven.

Sure, it's not Las Vegas. Or even Reno for that matter. Utahans really don't care. It's less than a two-hour drive from Salt Lake City (compared to the six-hour drive to Las Vegas).

And you can pointlessly waste your money there. So, that's what I did. Sort of.

I came into a random casino of choice with $1, and left with $1.65.

I half-jokingly said to the lady cashing me out that I had 'won big' today. She chuckled. But it was true. I mean, I did get a pretty heavy return on investment, statistically speaking.

So, if you're ever heading over to the Bonneville Salt Flats, be sure to pave out a half an hour of your day to stop by Wendover, Utah and West Wendover, Nevada. If anything, you'll get to see some strange people pouring their life savings into slot machines.
